de Gruchy is one of the oldest department store retailers in the UK and Channel Islands, celebrating 200 years of trading in Jersey in 2010.
As such, it is now seen as part of the ‘fabric’ of St. Helier and enjoys a reputations way beyond the shores of Jersey.
The store occupies a landmark building in a 100% prime pitch in the town’s main shopping area, King Street. Originally developed as a department store, de Gruchy currently trades from 76,000 square feet and is the largest retail outlet in the Channel Islands. Due to its purpose-built nature the store has vast open floors that are perfect for today’s retail requirements.
Since being acquired by the Ulster Stores Group in November 2006, significant investment has been made in refurbishment of the Arcade, Menswear and further investment in the contemporary fashion area, along with the introduction of Fortuna Electricals to the ground floor and a Coffee Shop on the first floor. Further plans are in the pipeline which will focus on the first floor.
During 2010 de Gruchy will be celebrating 200 years of trading. Watch out for fun events during the summer months!
